MIKE SMITH

Our TATJOY Family story

Originally from Northern Maine, Mike moved to Central Florida at the age of 17. He excelled in the A/C field and that became his career of choice. He was an A/C Master Technician. Mike has always been good with his hands. He can rebuild engines, fix you’re A/C, and repair just about anything else.

He built his house in 1999 where he lives with his wife and animals. Mike has dogs, cats, a donkey named Snickers and a duck and goose that are best friends.

He is an animal lover, avid hunter, and just a kind and thoughtful man. A damn good neighbor.
In early 2016, Mike started losing his grip and his balance. Dropping tools and falling from ladders. He was very worried. The doctors didn’t know exactly what was causing this. They guessed mild stroke, diet and blood pressure. After a year and a half of various tests and trial meds, the doctors finally realized Mike had ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). That was November 12th, 2017. Since then, the disease has gotten worse, Mikes speech has become slurred. His fingers are drawn up tight, making it hard to hold things. The list of symptoms goes on and on…
Due to ALS, Mike has turned in his work truck and is now permanently disabled. He is living on Social Security. His income is a quarter of what he was earning as a A/C Master Technician. His bills haven’t changed though, and more are coming. We started this poster run to help Mike pay his bills and medical expenses. If you would like to help Mike, please buy a poster, donate straight to Mike, or donate to the ALS Foundation – Florida chapter here on our website.

Thank you!

08/26/2019 Update:

We are truly saddened to post that our dear friend and neighbor, Mike Smith has passed away. Mike was diagnosed with ALS in November 2017 and fought valiantly.
Visits with Mike were always a treat. We will miss his warmth and humor and the knowledge he shared. He was the best neighbor you could ever hope to have.
We are devastated by his passing but take solace in the thought that he is no longer suffering and at peace.
Someone so special can never be forgotten.

May his soul rest in peace.
Please take a moment to pray for Mike's family in this difficult time as well as others with ALS. We will continue to support the ALS Florida Chapter in research and treatment in Mike's memory.

R.I.P. Mike,we love ya buddy
